Overview
Current Media Inc. is a technology startup that connects top media companies, brands, bloggers, and creatives with live social content through their enterprise software. In 2015, Current looked to evolve their product by developing a mobile product experience. This new experience, for both iOS and Android, enables publishers to directly hire photographers for live coverage of events right on their smartphones.
Defining the Brand
Design
Current’s brand follows the “less but better” design philosophy from Dieter Rams. He famously reasons that an end product should be rid of frivolous ornaments. The brand impression is light and sophisticated yet energetic and mechanical. The interfaces are built with soft gradients, lines, and curves — forms that are neither offensive nor lackluster. Components of the brand include a thoughtfully curated color palette and a modern yet functional typographic paring.
Applying the Visuals
Design
Through out the process, the goal was always to maintain consistency for the core experiences. As a result, a platform agnostic design system was developed to build out the user interfaces for both the Current iOS and Android app. Adhering to a robust brand style guide, a series of visually consistent screens were effortlessly produced shortly after.
